Victoria will help participants understand how oyster farms and living shorelines work and point out unique birds and marine life found along the shoreline.  After kayaking\, you will retire to Blue Water Grill & Raw Bar for a sampling of a half dozen North Carolina oysters and Blue Water’s signature oyster shooter.

DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to help the North Carolina Coastal Federation by planting thousands of marsh plant plugs in an effort to restore the natural salt marsh at Carolina Beach State Park.  \n\n\n\nThe NC Coastal Federation\, NC State Parks\, and Backwater Environmental have partnered to restore and enhance tidal marsh habitat in a 13.5-acre highly disturbed area\, dominated by early successional invasive species composed primarily of Phragmites. Backwater finished constructing a shallow slough through the site in April\, and now an extensive planting of the site is needed.

DESCRIPTION:The 12th annual Surfalorus Film Festival takes place September 18-20\, 2023 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This three-day celebration showcases the year’s best surf films and takes place during the Eastern Surfing Championship (ESA). Surfalorus shares great surf movies from award-winning veterans to first-time filmmakers in a supportive\, laid-back atmosphere. The festival’s primary venue\, Jennette’s Pier\, looks over one of the best breaks on the East Coast. \n\n\n\nNC Oyster Trail will be giving a presentation at 6 PM\, after which Tyler Hofe from Kinnakeet Oyster Co. will be shucking and serving FREE oysters for everyone.  \n\n\n\nSurfalorus is presented by North Carolina Aquariums and is a partnership between Cucalorus and Dare Arts.

The Oyster Cook-off Challenge begins at 1:00 pm & will be judged by participating event patrons. The ALL-YOU-CAN EAT Oyster Roast will take place at 4 pm (ticket required). There will also be games and activities for the kids. Live Music & the Roast will conclude at 11 pm.
